We take roof inspections to a whole new level

AERIAL ROOF INSPECTIONS

An aerial roof inspection is essential because it gives you an up-close, detailed view of your roof. By using a drone an inspector can get a better view of the condition of your roof and any potential issues that may need to be addressed. This can help you identify potential problems now, while they are still small, which can save you time and money in the long run. It can also help you plan for future repairs and maintenance to ensure that your roof remains in good condition.

While some standard single-story asphalt roofs are walkable, there are many other roofs that just shouldn’t be walked on unless you’re are a skilled roofer with knowledge of that particular roof application or style.

There are a few factors that could lead an inspector to consider whether or not to walk a roof. The most common factors are, the height of the roof, as high roofs are dangerous and should be left to a professional roofer, the second issue is the type of material such as, slate, clay tile, cement, wood shake etc. etc. If an inspector were to walk on an older roof there if a medium too high probability that they could damage the roof. Keep in mind that as a roof ages under the sun over the years the materials start to lose their structural integrity and becomes brittle thus cracking under pressure.

Now for the good news! Technology has finally caught up with our industry. In 2010: The French company Parrot released their Parrot AR Drone, the first ready-to-fly drone which could be controlled entirely via Wi-Fi, using a smartphone. As the drone industry continued to grow the technology and applications for drones grew with it.

With today’s latest drone technology an FAA Certified Aerial Roof Inspector now has the ability to really get up close and personal with your roof. We can now photograph and document every square inch of the roof. That means we can see every roof penetration such as roof jacks, vents, skylights, ridge cap, valley flashing and so on. This technology is so good we can even tell to the colors of each granule that is embedded on the roofing materials.

Many clients ask us why don’t all Home Inspection Companies near me perform Aerial Roof inspections. The answer is that the FAA puts restriction on any commercial use of drones unless you pass an Aeronautical test. The FAA states “In order to fly your drone under the FAA’s Small UAS Rule (Part 107), you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA”

The civil penalties for flying a commercial drone without first obtaining a remote pilot’s certificate from the FAA are up to $32,666 for each incidence.

As you can see there is a bit of an investment of time, education and equipment and many Inspectors are comfortable with the standard roof inspection that falls under the InterNACHI Standards of Practice.

At AHI we feel that the investment that it takes to offer our client a Superior Aerial Roof Inspection far outweighs the cost and time it takes our Inspectors to become a Certified FAA – UAS drone pilot.

We are pleased to add our Aerial Roof Inspections as a free add-on to every single home family we do.
Just take a look at this property below and ask yourself, Would or could my inspector walk on this roof and find all the deficiencies?
